Phoenicia will produce, distribute and sell Kat Maconie products in the region, the designer said in a statement Thursday. As a result, Kat Maconie will open retail stores in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu this year, followed by a further 10 across the country in 2015.
David Carruthers, CEO of Phoenicia, called Maconie, who’s known for her bold, playful footwear designs, a “dynamic, hard working and creative young talent,” and said the agreement marked “a significant step forward for both partners.”
And in addition to the expansion in China, on Thursday Maconie opened a pop-up store in London’s Covent Garden section. The shop, which sells both current and archival pieces, will remain open through Saturday.
