Kuchar, who is currently ranked fifth in the world, will have a signature shoe line and will represent the brand in global TV, print, outdoor and digital ads under the multiyear agreement.
“As we continue to grow this part of our business, having Matt’s valuable input aids us in building our golf product,” Rick Higgins, VP of merchandising/marketing at Skechers Performance Division, told us.
“We’ve been working with Matt for a while to create his own shoe, and he’s been very instrumental on the technical and design aspect,” he said.
“Whether competing or practicing, I’m on my feet for hours, so the comfort and performance of my shoes is a critical factor in my success. In trying out the GoGolf line, I was pleased both with the shoe and with the Skechers Performance Division team. Their attention to detail and expertise in performance footwear is impressive,” Kuchar said in the statement.
Skechers has been steadily growing their endorsement roster, adding elite runner Kara Goucher to represent its GoRun line alongside Meb Keflezighi and signing Pete Rose and Joe Namath to its Relaxed Fit men’s line, all last month. The company also announced last week it is sponsoring Triple Crown contender California Chrome at Belmont Stakes.
“[Athletic partnerships] definitely help. The word of mouth and marketing push is aiding awareness of Skechers Performance and further letting consumers know that we are building performance product,” Higgins explained.
