The International Licensing Merchandisers’ Association will induct industry veteran Bernard Leifer, president and CEO of The SG Cos., into its Licensing Hall of Fame. The induction will take place on June 18 at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas.
“The Licensing Industry Hall of Fame is comprised of the most respected and accomplished professionals in the business, and Bernie exemplifies the character and dedication necessary to be placed among them,” LIMA President Charles Riotto said in a statement. “For more than 20 years, he has left an indelible mark both on our organization and the industry as a whole, and we are delighted to honor him with this well-deserved recognition.”
Leifer has made licensing the foundation of his company, with an ever-growing portfolio ranging from entertainment properties such as “Thomas & Friends” and “Transformers” to lifestyle brands including Panama Jack and Harley-Davidson. In total, SG Cos. holds more than 50 licenses across its footwear and apparel businesses.
Leifer also has tapped the power of licensing to benefit the breast cancer cause. Since 2008, SG has partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and to date has raised more than $100,000 for the nonprofit organization through a 10 percent royalty on every pair of shoes sold.
