The company has tapped Joseph Stafiniak as SVP of merchandising for Nine West, a newly created position. The executive, who starts today, will report to Kathy Nedorostek, group president of global footwear and accessories.
“When you think of women’s footwear, you think of Nine West. … It is a highly respected brand with terrific recognition,” said Stafiniak, who was most recently SVP of licensed categories at Coach Inc. He was previously VP and GM of footwear for Coach, and has also held senior roles at Ralph Lauren Footwear, Giorgio Armani and CK Calvin Klein.
Stafiniak said his immediate goals are to present a more cohesive message across all Nine West categories from footwear and handbags to jewelry and other accessories. He also will focus on working with the design teams to drive product innovation. “There is tremendous upside for the brand in all categories,” he said.
For her part, Nedorostek said plotting the next chapter for Nine West has been a priority since she joined Jones Group last fall.
“We wanted a corporate merchant who knew how [to tap into] synergies across all categories,” she said. “To operate as a global brand, we need all our business units moving in the same direction.”
