The Famous Footwear president, who splits his time between the chain’s St. Louis headquarters and Scottsdale, Ariz., is an avid golfer. So much so that he gets out on the course as many as 60 times a year.
“For me, golf is a great escape,” he said. “It’s four or five hours when I can just recharge and forget everything else.”
Although Ausick mostly plays near the Scottsdale home he shares with his wife, he also has sampled some of the country’s most famous fairways.
“I’ve been lucky enough to play some of the really great courses. It’s hard to beat the scenery and atmosphere at Pebble Beach,” he said. “I’ve also played Augusta National, and that was very special. Augusta, [home of the Masters Tournament], is probably at the very top of my list. Golf is all about the moment and the people you are with. It’s a great way to relax and refresh your mind.”
