The skate brand nabbed its first male surfer for an endorsement deal earlier this month, signing six-time National Scholastic Surfing Association champion Granger Larsen.
“I’m stoked Airwalk is pushing surfing and bringing me along with it,” Larsen said.
A native of Maui, Hawaii, the 22-year-old surfer came a few places shy of qualifying for the World Championship Tour last year. But he said he’s looking forward to giving it another try this year.
“My goal is to make it to the world tour and take the brand further into the surfing world with me,” he said.
Here, Larsen talks about how he gets primed for a big competition and where he likes to hang in Hawaii.
“My toothbrush. I can’t handle furry teeth — grosses me out.”
Best restaurant in Hawaii:
“Ono Tacos. Go there if you are ever in Maui.”
Before a big competition …
“I make sure I have been surfing a lot and have a good, confident attitude.”
Earliest surfing memory:
“Going on the nose of my dad’s surfboard when I was about 3 years old.”
Actor who would play me in a movie:
“Leonardo DiCaprio because he is the best and my favorite actor.”
Sponsorship I declined:
“I had to turn down Power Balance because I didn’t believe in it.”
