It was a season of delicate details and feminine silhouettes on fashion’s grandest stage. For spring, the Paris couture collections offered a variety of takes on sheerness and lace, including Chanel’s up-to-there lace boots and richly embroidered pumps at Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Elie Saab. Floral themes permeated several collections, with blossoms adorning gowns and ankle-strap Mary Jane styles. Raf Simons opted to make footwear the acidic, metallic counterpoint to sweeter embellished dresses at Dior, while highly decorated mixed-material pumps added an exotic flourish to head-to-toe matched looks at Armani Privé. At Atelier Versace, less was clearly more, as transparent platform sandals sported see-through straps and gold anklets for an edgier statement.
