Running Specialty Group is adding to its numbers.
With Thursday’s acquisition of six BlueMile running stores, the Denver-based retail chain — a strategic partnership between Finish Line Inc. and Gart Capital Partners Ltd. — has grown its store base to 35.
Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
BlueMile, owned by Ashley and Andrea Johnson, operates four locations in Indianapolis and two in Louisville, Ky.
Ashley Johnson will continue to head operations and customer service for BlueMile, and Andrea Johnson will oversee marketing and communications. According to a statement from Running Specialty Group, in-store staff will remain in place and more will be added as planned new doors are opened.
“BlueMile is a perfect fit for RSG because [the stores] are the epitome of what we think of as a great running specialty store — a passion for sport, a top-notch staff, close engagement with their customers and local communities, and the commitment to provide very personalized service — an element lacking in many big-box stores,” Ken Gart, partner of Gart Capital, said in a statement.
“This is a great opportunity for us to continue to focus on our passion for health and fitness while being part of a larger organization that will let us provide more opportunities for our staff,” Ashley Johnson said.
Glenn Lyon, chairman and CEO of Finish Line, said BlueMile was exactly the type of business that meshed well with the Running Specialty Group’s mission.
