Micro-Pak Ltd. has made its commitment to sustainability official.
The Hong Kong-based supplier of anti-mold packaging supplies announced last week that, following a six-month review, it had received Silver certification from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute for its polyethylene sticker and sheet products.
“We get a lot of questions regarding the safety and sustainability of our products, and [certification] is a first step in answering a lot of questions and then making the industry know that the bar has been raised. And as far as Micro-Pak is concerned, it will continue to be raised,” said Sal Cesario, global sales and marketing manager for the company.
The nonprofit Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute assesses products across a spectrum of categories, namely the use and reusability of materials, the use of renewable energy, water stewardship and social fairness in the manufacturing process. Products can be certified to Basic, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum standards. Micro-Pak’s products will be recertified annually, Cesario said, and the company is committed to improving with each recertification.
“Part of Cradle to Cradle is a continuous improvement commitment, and that was really important for us in choosing Cradle to Cradle,” Cesario said. “[Our customers can] rest assured that Micro-Pak demonstrates environmental performance and is a leader in industry, but that we’re not satisfied and we’re looking for ways to improve.”
In a statement, Bridgett Luther, president of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, said Micro-Pak is the first company in its industry to receive the certification.
