Buzz: Galet, Mipacha & More

Comfort Quotient
The creators of Solemates high-heel guards — Becca Brown and Monica Ferguson — have set their sights on a new mission: ensuring a blunder-free wedding day. They have devised an emergency kit that includes Advil, Blistex, tissues, hair bands and safety pins, among many other must-have fixers. The kit will be exhibited at New York’s International Bridal Week Show at Pier 94, Oct. 12-14 and will retail for $30 at select boutiques in the U.S., including Shoebuy.com and David’s Bridal, as well as Thesolemates.com. “It provides all the essential fashion fix-its and problem solvers for your big day,” said co-founder Brown.

French Dressing

Galet, a line of canvas loafers for men, will launch for spring ’14. The handmade-in-France collection features eight different patterns, each with four unique surprises for a “Where’s Waldo?” effect that means no two pairs are alike. Galet, which means “pebble” in French, debuts with men’s shoes, and women’s is expected to follow soon. Retailing for $375, the line is aimed at high-end boutiques.

World Party
A new shoe brand is based on traditional Peruvian blankets. Mipacha — a Quechua word meaning “my world” — offers a high-top and low-top sneaker in 20 designs and colorways, retailing for $150 each. Every shoe is unisex, available in sizes 36 through 45. The Amsterdam-based company has set up a factory in Cuzco, Peru, and for every pair of shoes sold, 10 percent of the proceeds go to educating local shoemakers. The line hit European and online stores earlier this summer and will debut in the U.S. for spring ’14.

Bali Shoe

After launching a general footwear collection last year, Elliott Lucca is adding shoes to its Bali ’89 collection for spring ’14. The Bali ’89 label takes cues from traditional rattan Balinese sleeping mats, the original inspiration for the Elliott Lucca handbag line, which hit the market in 1989. The footwear aesthetic mirrors that same look, with woven styles in an array of color combos. The flats and wedges retail for $99 to $109 and are slated to hit retailers including Nordstrom, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor and Zappos.com in December.
