Artola, which has just trademarked the name Artola The Brooklyn Footwear Co., will launch women’s and children’s shoes for spring ’14. (The brand debuted in 2010 with a full men’s collection, which continues for spring with 17 styles.) The new women’s line features five styles, including a couple of oxfords, a slip-on (below) and a gladiator sandal, priced from $125 to $175. Like the men’s shoes, the women’s looks are made in Mexico. The children’s collection, however, is produced in the U.S. of Italian leathers and sheepskin linings. “We were shopping for our son, and it was so challenging to find a quality shoe,” designer Jury Artola said of the line’s inspiration. The kids’ shoes, which come in infant to toddler sizes, are offered in eight styles — four for boys and four for girls — including booties, sandals, Mary Janes, chukkas and oxfords for $90 to $180. On the children’s side, Artola is targeting high-end department stores and boutiques.
All belt, no bulk is the motto behind 6-year-old company Invisibelt. “It’s a flat, functional belt that eliminates buckle bulge and the need to tug on jeans,” said founder Kathy Kramer. The lightweight and virtually undetectable styles retail for $22 on the company’s e-commerce site and at major retailers such as New York-based Ricky’s, as well as footwear stores including Shoe-Inn, with locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The Invisibelt comes in clear, black and neutral tones, with a denim version available while supplies last.
Badorf Shoe Co. is looking to make a splash with a new line of children’s flip-flops and sandals. Crabbyclaws, launching for spring, takes a fashion-driven approach to the category, with sophisticated materials and embellishments. Available in toddler and youth sizes, the 25-style offering includes thong and buckle-strap sandals for girls, and slides and thongs for boys. The shoes are detailed with colorful printed footbeds, as well as rivets and flower ornaments. All the styles feature adjustable back straps that can slide up and down or be removed if desired. Priced from $24 to $29, Crabbyclaws will deliver to stores beginning in January.
Minnetonka will add a collection of sandals to its girls’ offering for spring. Available in sizes 12 to 4, the looks are directly inspired by the classic moccasin brand’s styles for women. The colorful collection ranges from thongs to gladiator-inspired looks, embellished with signature Minnetonka details such as fringe and braiding. All the shoes feature padded footbeds for comfort. Retailing for $30 a pair, the line will deliver to stores in February.
