The Goleta, Calif. –based brand, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corp., has collaborated with celebrity chef Cat Cora on a line of women’s footwear designed for both professional and at-home cooks.
Set for a spring ’13 launch, the collection marks Mozo’s first partnership with a female chef. Cora follows in the footsteps of Marcus Samuelsson, Chris Cosentino and Aarón Sánchez, who have all been part of the brand’s Chef Signature Series that launched in June 2011.
Cora is a familiar face on Food Network’s “Iron Chef America,” as well as the co-host of Bravo’s new reality series “Around the World in 80 Plates.” She’s also authored three cookbooks and has a signature line of cookware with Canadian brand Starfit.
While the shoe line is suitable for commercial use, Cora said she had the working mom in mind when designing, focusing on looks that easily transitioned out of the kitchen.
“[Moms] spend a tremendous amount of time on their feet cooking,” she said. “[Now] they can walk out of the house to the grocery store and feel they’re wearing a good-looking shoe that’s stylish and comfortable. It’s about lifestyle.”
Included in the offering are ballet flats and wedges in colors inspired by vegetable and flower gardens.
While the footwear is trend-driven, it incorporates performance features such as slip-resistance and enhanced cushioning. And the line is built around Mozo’s proprietary Triple Fit comfort system. “I want people to feel the comfort, but they don’t need to see it,” said Cora.
Set to launch in spring ’13, the shoes are set to retail for $70 to $110 and initially will be distributed through culinary-oriented retailers.
