Alber Elbaz knows how to celebrate a birthday. On the Lanvin fall runway, Elbaz toasted his 10th year as creative director with a wild fun outing, afterward belting out a few bars from “Que Sera Sera” and hosting a party to celebrate with all his guests. For the collection, he imagined a feminine-yet-forward looking woman, clothed in bright-colored, form-fitting party dresses and accessorized with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll polish via leather, velvet, jewels and fur. Head-to-toe brocade appeared in at least one look, while bejeweled long-sleeve dresses hinted at a luxurious lifestyle. The shoes did not disappoint, either. Highlights included a new pump with crushed “diamonds” on the sole, a reworked high-heel biker boot with brocade inlay and a modern-looking bootie with a deep V-cut. Best of all, though, was this asymmetrical platform sandal, which combined the season’s all-important use of the ladylike ankle strap and a rich jewel-toned velvet.
