The New York location, at 600 Madison Ave., occupies 800 square feet of selling space connected to its existing women’s and kids’ store.
“It made sense to open [here],” said Ugg President Connie Rishwain, adding that New York is the brand’s best market. “Our men’s business is growing in double digits. Men’s is a big opportunity for the brand.”
Brady, who will appear in Ugg’s fall ad campaign, said he was surprised by the pace of the business. “They’ve already got the buyers in to make their orders so they can start shipping,” said Brady. “The planning that goes into launching a successful product is amazing.”
To kick off the opening, the new higher-end Ugg Collection from Italy was flown in early, said Rishwain. And Ugg introduced a limited series of handsewns produced in Maine that will only be available at two other Ugg locations and on the brand’s website.
The store’s design was inspired by aviation. A lifelike airplane wing covers the ceiling.
Ugg will next bow a store in New York’s trendy Meatpacking District in October, Rishwain said.
