Under Armour Picks New President of International

Under Armour Inc. is arming itself with new leadership for its international business.

The performance footwear and apparel company announced today it has named Karl-Heinz (“Charlie”) Maurath as president of international. Maurath, who will take over the role in September, will lead strategic expansion into international markets and head up the firm’s business in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Maurath replaces Mark Dowley, who left the position in April 2011 to take an advisory role.

Prior to joining Under Armour, Maurath was SVP for Adidas Latin America. His 20 years in the footwear business also include establishing and serving as managing director at Adidas in Thailand, and working as managing director of Adidas Sweden and VP of Area Nordic.

“[Joining Under Armour] is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a dynamic brand with unlimited potential for international growth,” Maurath said in a statement.

Under Armour also announced it has added two other staff members: James Hardy Jr. as chief supply chain officer; and Fred Knowles as SVP of human resources.

“The addition [of Maurath, Hardy and Knowles] bolsters a passionate and experienced executive leadership team that is spearheading Under Armour’s long-term growth,” Under Armor CEO and founder Kevin Plank said in a statement.
