The Bensimon collaboration includes four tennis-inspired sneakers in red-orange, turquoise, DKNY logo-print and black. While the silhouettes are modeled after Bensimon’s iconic casual looks, the colors and materials are taken from DKNY’s clothing and handbag lines.
“Bensimon’s iconic beach sneaker has a pure sensibility that speaks perfectly to the DKNY brand,” said Eileen Shields, VP of footwear design at DKNY. “We love the idea of twisting an icon, and that’s what this collaboration does.”
The footwear collection will retail for $65 and be available at select DKNY and Bloomingdale’s locations and at DKNY.com, along with an accompanying collection of colorful canvas totes retailing for $95.
According to Shields, this partnership was natural for the brand, and other collaborations are possible in the future.
“Two heads are always better than one. When an item is so perfectly [rooted] in design, it’s exciting to rethink it in new ways,” she said. “We have our eyes wide open for collaborations that make sense for us.”
On a different note, DKNY’s capsule collection of handbags with Refinery29.com features styles that are each inspired by and tailored to one of Refinery29’s local edition cities of New York, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and London. Styles include a backpack for New York, a satchel for San Francisco, a cross-body look for Washington D.C., and a box clutch for Los Angeles.
The line launches for spring ’13 on the style site, at DKNY stores, DKNY.com and Bloomingdales.com. (It will be available at Macy’s later in the season.)
