Buzz: Beverly Feldman, Steven Land & More

Comfort Clause
Fashion sandal firm Italian Shoemakers of Miami will launch new brand Italian Comfort for spring. The series of trend-driven looks are produced in Italy and feature cushioned footbeds and lightweight unit bottoms. Platforms and wedges in a range of novelty materials and colors are included in the offering. Set to retail from $45 to $55, the line is targeted at independents. Delivery is slated for February.

Wedge Works
San Rafael, Calif.-based Vasyli LLC heads into the dress market for spring ’13 with the introduction of sandals on fashion-driven wedge bottoms from two of its brands. The Weil Integrative Footwear label will offer two leather styles on EVA and cork wedges, retailing for $130. And the companion Orthaheel label will debut two looks featuring lightweight faux wood wedges (one is pictured above), both priced under $100. These styles also feature Orthaheel’s proprietary built-in footbeds, which are designed to reduce overpronation. Delivery is slated for April.

Private Life
Beverly Feldman is expanding her reach. The Alicante, Spain-based designer is adding a private-label division, Beverly Feldman Design Concierge, for fall ’13. Feldman said that by pairing a roster of clients with her long-term factory connections, her company will be able to produce small orders, which is a hard-to-find option for new and niche footwear designers. Other services will include design, packaging and customized textiles for women’s, men’s and children’s shoes, plus handbags. “I am sharing the wealth of my experience and talent with the open market,” Feldman said. She noted that she also plans to continue growing her eponymous women’s label.

For Men
Contemporary men’s brand Steven Land makes its move into footwear this spring. The company, known for its neckwear and dress shirts, has inked a licensing deal with Island Footwear of Del Ray Beach, Fla., for a collection of men’s dress and casual looks. The eight-style offering includes leather slip-ons and oxfords retailing from $119 to $179. Set to deliver in February, the line will be distributed in Steven Land accounts including department and specialty stores, as well as footwear independents.
