Brian Atwood is amping up his eponymous line with the addition of handbags for spring ’12.
The footwear designer unveiled a limited collection of handbags including clutches and minaudieres for spring ’12.
“I have always loved designing handbags, and we were getting so many requests for them,” Atwood said of his decision to expand into the category. “It seemed like the right time to start with chic clutches then eventually expand on that.”
The four-style Brian Atwood spring handbag collection, which includes a variety of envelope-style clutches and hard-cased minaudieres featuring tortoise shell, resin and metal inlay, will be sold exclusively at Gilt.com, with prices ranging from $1,050 to $1,850.
“I loved playing with color and mixing colors and textures on different shapes,” Atwood said. The designer cited the “Carla” clutch with zipper-framing detail as one of his favorite looks. “It comes in everything from suede to butter-soft crocodile skin,” he said.
Going forward, Atwood plans to expand to larger bags— including hobos, totes and day bags— for fall ’12. And the designer confirmed plans are also underway to launch handbags under the B Brian Atwood line, which is licensed to The Jones Group, later this year.
Atwood is also eyeing expansion into the men’s category for his namesake collection. “It will be a very edited collection of styles in different variations [of materials and textures],” he said. “I can’t wait!”
