In the Nude
The Ash Footwear flagship opening got a celebrity boost when “Saturday Night Live’s” Vanessa Bayer, DJ Becka Diamond, Marc Jacobs’ husband, Lorenzo Martone, and Solange Knowles showed up Wednesday. Knowles, the new face of Rimmel London, said she first hooked up with the brand through an affiliate at Jean-Michel Cazabat, and she enjoys rocking nude shoes by Ash. “The color works for brown girls,” she said. “If it’s the same color as my skin, I’m sold.” So what’s next for the sis of megastar Beyonce? Knowles said that she’s wrapping up her second studio album, set to release by the end of the year.
The Pensole program has a new group of graduates. The four-week sneaker-design course, hosted at New York’s Parson’s The New School for Design, culminated on Friday with all 23 students publicly showcasing their final sketches at the school. “It’s been a great experience, and it went by so fast,” said founder and head instructor D’Wayne Edwards. Previously hosted at Art Center College of Design in California and the University of Oregon, the Pensole program prompted Edwards, a former Jordan Brand footwear design director, to move to New York for a month, which he said took some getting used to. “It was like being a bachelor again,” he joked. But his teaching duties aren’t over yet. This weekend, Edwards heads to Texas to instruct a group of 100 young men about the art of sneaker design as a part of comedian Steve Harvey’s Mentoring Weekend event.
