What’s the inspiration behind the spring ’12 collection?
SE: Spring is my idea of glitz, which revolves around rosegold and glitter and how it mixes and matches. I believe a lot in texture and materials such as leather and snake. There are also a lot of fun wedges. I love shorts, and with shorts you need a wedge or a heel.
What’s one of the hottest trends in women’s footwear?
SE: There is a huge return to the classics right now. The signature collection is really driving our business, but we do [classics] with a twist by introducing rosegold into the buckles, adding splashes of color and mixing in natural materials like cork.
How is business at the store you opened in East Hampton, N.Y., earlier this summer?
SE: It has been spectacular. We sold 137 pairs of shoes in one day, and we expect to do even more over Labor Day weekend.
What other big projects are you working on?
SE: There will be a new ad campaign, and it will be a departure. We are also planning to open a retail store in New York. It will be very different than the store we have on Long Island.
How do you unwind in Las Vegas when you escape Platform?
SE: I like to eat at my favorite Vegas restaurant, Michael Mina. I also like to fly to Los Angeles to shop. I don’t gamble because I gamble every day of my life in the shoe business. I gamble with inventory, new fashion trends, the whims of my customers, weather conditions that affect freight — that’s enough for me.
