Nicholas Kirkwood’s newest collection as creative director of Pollini combines elements of the brand’s heritage with his own touches. The designer offers up classics reinterpreted in modern ways for a “country girl coming into the city” aesthetic, he said. Kirkwood looked to traditional Pollini details — including menswear references — and turned them up a notch with contrast stitching, oversized tassels (as seen on this bold, blue peep-toe ankle boot) and a cheeky cable-knit printed suede on neatly stacked wooden tapered heels. He played with wool felt on an evening sandal and allowed contrast-colored leather linings to peak through at the seams for bright pops of color. “I worked with classic silhouettes, like a riding boot, and then tied [that idea] together with details, such as a horse bit on pumps, but doing everything in a modern way,” Kirkwood said.
