Oscar de la Renta knows what women want. Known for his beautifully crafted, couture-like — if not cutting-edge — dresses and suits, de la Renta has recently made a serious effort to step up his footwear to become worthy of his other creations. And on today’s runway, it was clear the expert designer had reached his goal. Tweed suits and coats, sequins skirts and dresses, fur collars and trims and touches of croc were the order of the day, paired with sleek chocolate, gray or olive pointy toe boots or classic gray flannel ankle-strap pumps. The highlight, though, was de la Renta’s perfect ladylike-yet-fashion-forward corset ankle boot in gray suede and brocade, which looked equally well with tailored tweed suits or this shimmering evening dress.
