Couture Runway: Sleek Affair

Couture designers opted for elegant fare for spring, offering up chic takes on ankle-strap sandals and pumps. A sophisticated — albeit limited — color palette enhanced the collections in Paris, with turquoise and bronze serving as highlights among the traditional black, gold and nude. Embellishments were pared down and minimalist silhouettes reigned at Chanel and Elie Saab, while ton-sur-ton details added richness without bulk at Valentino, Dior and Armani Privé. Even Bruno Frisoni’s latest collection for Roger Vivier was more sleek than showy with architectural feathers and jeweled chain details.
