Along with Rick Paterno, Jones Group president of footwear, and Nine West CFO Tom Murray, Card will direct fundraising efforts for the gala, which will be held at the Marriott Marquis in New York on Nov. 30.
“I’m honored to have been asked to chair the event,” Card said in a statement last week. “It has been such a tremendous tradition for our footwear industry, one that unites us all under the banner of community and doing good The Jones Group’s Wes Card for those in need.”
Two Ten President Peggy Kim Meill said Jones Group’s presence in New York is a subtle reminder of why the dinner is held in the city in the first place.
“We moved it to New York as a response to Sept. 11,” she said. “To have a company that’s based there [support the gala] is poignant to me because it reminds me of the reason we came: to help businesses in the area.”
With the 2010 event setting records for the organization in terms of financial assistance, Meill said she is optimistic about this year’s fundraising efforts.
“The committee is really what’s going to drive this,” she said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what Wes and his team put together.” Jim Salzano, interim president of Clarks Cos. and incoming chairman of the Two Ten board of directors, said, “[Card] will be superbly assisted by a committee of strong and highly able volunteers representing the full spectrum of the footwear industry.”
