Soles4Souls has been hard at work for Japan.
The charity organization has struck up several partnerships with retailers and brands in its quest to help the victims of the March 11 earthquake. It announced Wednesday it had joined forces with Foot Solutions in Upper Arlington, Ohio, to collect shoes through the end of April.
Other partnerships have already been formed with retailers including Fresno, Calif.-based Sierra Running Co.; Memphis, Tenn.-based The Good Feet Store; and Redondo Beach, Calif.-based Sport Chalet.
“After the devastation that we witnessed with Haiti, we were able to collect and ship more than 1 million pairs of shoes to the victims of that tragedy,” David Hacker, director of marketing at Sport Chalet, said in a statement. “So, of course, after the earthquake and tsunami happened in Japan, our initial reaction was to once again do our part and offer customers at our 55 locations an opportunity to affect the lives of the suffering through the mission of Soles4Souls. And with the threat of a tsunami coming so close to home, it’s a natural response for Sport Chalet to offer our resources to help those who have been affected by this disaster.”
On Monday, sourcing and manufacturing firm Synclaire Brands and BCNY International also pledged to help through Soles4Souls.
“In the world’s most tragic moments of natural disasters, we have always felt it important to give back and help those in need,” said Evan Cagner, president of Synclaire Brands and BCNY International.
Soles4Souls has partnered with organizations in Japan to transport and distribute the aid on the ground. And now, Clothes4Souls, a division of the footwear charity, is looking for help from individuals, churches, civic groups, schools, retailers and manufacturers. Donations can be made at Giveclothes.org.
“The support we have already received from our partners in the apparel industry and the general public has been moving,” said Wayne Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles4Souls and Clothes4Souls. “As with other natural disasters, like the earthquake in Haiti that prompted the creation of Clothes4Souls, our goal is to provide clothing to individuals who lost everything and offer them a little bit of hope for the future.”
