Compass is moving uptown and closer to the shoe action.
The directional footwear show, produced by the BPMW agency, will move to New York’s Terminal 5 space on West 56th Street for the spring ’12 event, scheduled for Aug. 2-3.
According to show organizer Edina Sultanik of BPMW, the change puts Compass closer to the FFANY show (held Aug. 2-4) at the Hilton Hotel. Last season, Compass was held at Center 548 in Chelsea.
“A lot of people felt that being closer to the action would make it easier to spend more time at Compass,” she said. “We’re definitely determined to stay in Midtown going forward.”
Sultanik said the new space is larger and more open than the previous location, with a main floor and balcony.
And despite the more uptown location, she said, the look and feel will remain consistent with past shows, with a focus on heritage and men’s brands. BPMW also would like to grow the number of exhibitors, as well as leverage the proximity to FFANY to increase penetration in women’s brands.
“It’s still going to feel like Compass. We’re going to have a DJ, cocktails at 5 p.m. and an awesome after-party. It’s just going to be closer,” Sultanik said. “[Attendees] want to have fun, but their primary focus is to do business. This will help everybody make more money. And that’s the focus at the end of the day.”
