The Yosi Samra brand is getting a new look. The line of foldable ballet flats, which launched in 2009, will add flip-flops for spring ’12. Featuring a mix of bright colors and a variety of bold prints, such as leopard and snakeskin, the 30 styles will retail for $55 to $66. When creating the line, designer Samra turned to exotic and colorful vacation spots such as St. Barts for inspiration. And, like the flats, Samra wanted a style that was easy to slip on. The looks will retail at Shopbop.com, American Rag, W Hotels and specialty shops.
All Black is no longer an all-women’s brand. The label is launching men’s footwear for spring. The five styles of oxfords, wingtips and slip-ons, which retail for $170, debuted at Sole Commerce last month and will be available in mid-February at boutiques including New York’s Enzyme Shoe Lab, Shoegasm and Tani. “The collection will first be available to our established boutique customers, who are very comfortable with the performance of All Black women’s and welcome the introduction of a fashionable [men’s] style that has quality construction and a reasonable price point,” said Marty Rose, agent and distributor for All Black by ACL Footwear Co. “[Men’s footwear] seems like a natural extension, and it’s the right time to enter this market.”
Foot in the Door
Twenty-five-year-old handbag brand Sondra Roberts is launching footwear this spring. Founded by Sandra Camche, the brand will now offer a collection of shoes that includes colorful platform wedges, sandals, heels and flip-flops. The new line will target retailers that currently carry the handbags, including Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s and Amazon.com, and will retail for $40 to $200. Sondra Roberts has showrooms in New York, Dallas, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
John Lobb’s annual tradition of paying tribute to St. Crispin, the patron saint of shoemakers, is alive and well. On Oct. 25, the French men’s brand will unveil its latest style to mark St. Crispin’s Day: an oxford with a plain cap toe. The style is the first limited-edition model to be offered by the brand in suede, in two different colors — plum and dark brown — as well as black and dark-brown calf leather. This year’s shoe retails for $1,650 at the John Lobb store on Madison Avenue in New York.
