Paris Runway: Hiking Looks

Stiletto and stacked-heel mid-calf boots are riffing on traditional hiking fare this fall. Designers in Paris played with speed lacing, furry tongues, colored laces and tractor soles to give the season’s best ankle boots an alpine edge. John Galliano’s pencil-heeled versions, though ill suited for mountain ascent, made a bold statement, while Raphael Young and Barbara Bui went for block heels and gritty metallic finishes. Michel Vivien’s crepe-soled looks and Be&D’s flat boots with shearling lining provided low-heel alternatives without sacrificing style.
