Former New Balance President and COO Jim Tompkins has been named as president of Spira Footwear.
Tompkins stepped down from his role at New Balance in 2009, and took up an advisory role at Spira a year ago. In his new position, Tompkins is tasked with positioning the company to compete head-to-head in the competitive athletic market.
“We’re very excited to have Jim serve as president of Spira,” company founder and CEO Andy Krafsur said in a statement. “He is one of the most well-liked and respected executives in our industry and provides a unique combination of experience, leadership, passion and integrity.”
Tompkins said in a press release he saw great potential for the brand and its WaveSpring technology. “With a credible technology and passionate Spira workforce, the potential for explosive growth is in place,” he said. “I am excited to bring my expertise to the brand.”
