Soles4Souls is lending a helping hand to Haiti.
In the wake of the massive earthquake that devastated the island nation Tuesday, killing thousands and toppling homes, schools and buildings, the Nashville, Tenn.-based charity has announced it will donate 1 million pairs of new shoes to victims of the disaster. Soles4Souls originally announced it would give 100,000, but upped its total due to overwhelming support.
In conjunction with its partners in the footwear industry and various distribution agencies, Soles4Souls is also sending a relief package that includes food, water, medical supplies, blankets and baby products.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragedy unfolding in Haiti,” Wayne Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles4Souls, said in a statement. “This [situation] is going to require a sustained humanitarian effort from everyone able to give, and we’ll be here to do our part with a gift of shoes to aid in the rescue and rebuilding process.”
