Skechers USA Inc. broke ground last week on a new distribution centerin Rancho Belago, Calif., with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger inattendance.
Built with developer Highland Fairview, the 1.8million-sq.-ft. facility will replace the company’s five currentdistribution centers in Ontario, Canada. The new center, which isexpected to be finished in 2011, will be the largest LEED-certifiedfacility in the U.S.
“Skechers will be the first phase of[employment] development here and that’s something to be celebrated.Plus, the fact that this will be the most environmentally sound,progressive, sophisticated building in the U.S. proves that what’s goodfor the economy can be good for the environment too,” saidSchwarzenegger at the groundbreaking on March 12.
MichaelGreenberg, president of the Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based footwearfirm, said the new facility would support the company’s growth, helpstreamline expenses and reduce its environmental impact.
