Ugg is spreading out across New York. The shearling boot brand is planning to open its third Manhattan location on Oct. 28, at Madison Avenue and 59th Street. A VIP kickoff event is also in the works and will be hosted by Vogue. For her part, Ugg Australia President Connie Rishwain said the company has high hopes for the new concept store. “We anticipate great things based on the success of our Soho and Upper West Side locations and are thrilled to be a part of Madison Avenue,” she said.
Weitzman Overhauls Site
Stuart Weitzman has brought his in-store experience to the Web. The designer last week relaunched his website, with an updated look that includes video showing the shoes on a model, fashion trends, tips on how to style new looks, and 360-degree photo zoom and rotation functionality. Zappos.com has operated the site on Weitzman’s behalf for the past four years, but the designer said he wanted to bring it in-house to capture the same feel shoppers experience when they visit his boutiques.
“I wanted to give our online shopper an environment where they would feel comfort in understanding our product, yet gain insight and knowledge about the brand,” Weitzman said. “Our new look, which merges merchandising with an editorial feel, achieves this goal.”
Musette Bows in NY
Irina Borsan said the stars aligned to bring Musette, Romania’s largest premium footwear, handbag and accessories manufacturer, to New York. Its 400-sq.-ft store, which opened on
Aug. 30, is located at 438 West Broadway. “This is an idea my sister, Luciana Mihordea, and I had for a while,” said Borsan. “But everything just seemed to fall into place now — the financial resources, having the owners of Musette agreeing to sign the franchise with us and finding the right location for our boutique.” Borsan is betting that customers looking for quality and exclusivity will be drawn to the store. “Since this is the only store in the U.S. [where] Musette products are available, you will be walking out with a piece only a handful of people [here] have.”
