Outdoor Brands Boost Outreach

Vendors were feeling cautiously optimistic about a rebound in the market during the opening day of Outdoor Retailer last week.

Many said they are planning to expand their direct-to-consumer outreach, especially via social media, to help grow sales.

Jim Zwiers, president of the Wolverine World Wide Outdoor Group, said that, in addition to increasing the firm’s retailer outreach with POS and marketing support, the brand would be relying on its Website, e-mails and Facebook and Twitter accounts to convert new shoppers to its brands.

Outdoor footwear executives also continued to keep price top of mind, and a number focused on technical footwear in the $80 to $120 range.

Styles showing strength were cold-weather boots, trail running and multisport product, as well as weather-proof commuter styles and after-sport looks in the casual category.
