Handy Withers, once SVP of the former Joan and David, and president of the David and Joan division, died unexpectedly on Jan. 6. He was 67.
Withers served at Joan and David from 1978 to 1995, where his duties included working with the firm’s Italian factories in both design and production.
According to company co-founder Joan Helpern, Withers was a world traveler with a passion for the hotel business. He went on to open his own boutique hotel in Brazil, a business he ran for a decade before returning to the States several years ago.
He also formerly served as a trustee of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum.
