Heelys is rolling into Asia in a big way.
Heeling Sports Ltd., parent company of Carrollton, Texas-based Heelys Inc., announced on Wednesday it had hired Tokyo-based Japan-Asia Strategies and its owner, Thomas Seymour, to build the footwear firm’s business in Asia. According to the company, Seymour will work closely with Heelys VP of international John O’Neil to evaluate market opportunities for the brand.
“We are extremely pleased to have Tom Seymour working with us,” O’Neil said in a statement. “His long experience in the Asia-Pacific region and his specific knowledge of markets, channels, consumers and trends that impact the Heelys business will help us drive and optimize our business there.”
Heelys President and CEO Tom Hansen said that, as Asia has grown in importance, the company needs to seize every sales prospect. “As our international business becomes more and more important, we want to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to maximize the opportunity,” he said.
Over the past 10 years, Seymour has helped to build business in the region for Brooks, Prince Tennis and LA Gear, among others.
