British hipster brand Dr. Martens is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week.
Originally embraced by Britain’s punks and mods, today the brand resonates with a new generation of consumers. To mark the occasion, the brand is launching a commemorative limited-edition collection consisting of two styles: the iconic eight-eyelet 1460 boot and the classic three-eyelet 1461 oxford, both available in signature black and cherry red. The line hit stores on April 1, Dr. Martens’ official birthday.
Handcrafted in the original Dr. Martens factory in Wollaston, England, the shoes will retail at $200 for the 1460 and $180 for the 1461. In celebration of the golden anniversary, details include gold eyelets, lace-ends, heel loops and a metallic-gold footbed. Each style will be limited to runs of 1,460 pairs per color for the boots, and 1,461 pairs per color of the companion shoe.
All shoes will come packaged in a limited-edition box, as well as a certificate of authenticity personally signed by the brand’s founders and owners, a bespoke hang tag and footprint tissue paper. The collection will be distributed through Dr. Martens stores and select retail partners, including Opening Ceremony.
