Designed by Terry Mera, the line includes houndstooth-print surfer styles, fringed designs as well as novelty looks with convertible knit cuffs, retailing from $120 to $230.
Boots are just part of the product offering, said Creative Director Marcus Mera. A companion series of sheepskin vests are available for $375, with sunglasses, handbags and denimwear planned for 2011.
The line is targeted at independents, with delivery slated for September. Online sales begin at the end of the month via Giannirich.com.
Sneaker brand Keds announced Thursday it would sponsor the Whitney Museum of American Art’s summer season in New York, July 1 through September 26.
To celebrate the partnership, the brand said it would also launch a collaboration, called KedsWhitney Collection, with designs by artists such as Jenny Holzer, Laura Owens and Sarah Crowner. The limited-edition shoes are designed on the Keds Champion style and are expected to retail for $70 to $75. The offering will be available exclusively at Bloomingdale’s, and on Bloomingdales.com and Keds.com, in July. A portion of the profits will benefit the museum.
“It’s great that Keds and the Whitney are friends,” said Jenny Holzer, in a written statement. “I have a renewed respect for shoe designers.”
“We are honored to be partnering with the Whitney Museum of American Art on their summer season, as well as launching the exciting KedsWhitney Collection,” said Kristin Kohler Burrows, president of Keds. “Working with an institution such as the Whitney and artists like Jenny Holzer, Laura Owens and Sarah Crowner is the personification of our new brand proposition and the wide range of creative possibilities Keds offers.”
