Organizers of the ASR show are hoping that exhibitors and retailers will soon be in an outdoor state of mind.
Nielsen Business Media’s Sports Group, which owns both the ASR and Outdoor Retailer trade shows, announced earlier this week that it had folded the ASR event.
“As a direct reflection of the marketplace, the ASR shows have experienced the cause and effect of these market shifts,” VP Andy Tompkins said in a letter to exhibitors and retailers. “Given these fundamental changes, it has proven to be increasingly difficult for the ASR shows in San Diego to serve the new needs of the action sports marketplace. Therefore, we are indefinitely suspending these events.”
Tompkins went on to say that the company hoped to increase the action sports retailer and brand presence at OR.
“While we realize this won’t work for everyone who had been attending or exhibiting at the ASR shows … we invite those from the action sports lifestyle industry … to participate in Outdoor Retailer in 2011,” he said.
