An expected downturn in attendance, plus rumors about a possible move back to Berlin, caused disquiet at the Barcelona Bread & Butter show this week.
The rumor surfaced after local Spanish-language newspapers and TV bulletins reported that organizers planned to move the show away from Barcelona, although it wasn’t clear whether the move would come in July 2009 or January 2010.
Nina Plumke, Bread & Butter’s communications spokesperson, wouldn’t confirm the reports, adding that the show had not issued any statement and that any plans for the future would be detailed at a Friday press conference. “Bread & Butter hasn’t come out with anything concrete about this,” she said.
The trade show opened on Wednesday and appeared busier than some of the 800 exhibitors expected given the worsening economic downturn.
