There’s no shortage of places to go or things to see when it comes to trade events for the upcoming spring ’10 buying season. All the shows are adjusting to new challenges in the marketplace, and show directors say they’re trying to make the events easier to shop than ever. Here’s a brief roundup of some of the footwear industry’s leading trade shows.
Dates: July 21-24
Show hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m., July 21-23; 9 a.m.-3 p.m., July 24
Location: Salt Palace Convention Center, Salt Lake City
Expected attendees: 20,000
Expected exhibitors: 975
Expected footwear exhibitors: 170
Notable new exhibitors: K-Swiss, Sebago
Highlights: A new Endurance Zone on the show floor will allow athletes, exhibitors and buyers to meet while participating in a variety of activities, including a Wii Fit contest. To assist retailers, show organizers also are arranging merchandising tours, so buyers can see new and innovative product displays to add to their stores.
The WSA Show
Dates: July 31-Aug. 2
Show Hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m., July 31- Aug. 1; 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Aug. 2
Location: Las Vegas Convention Center (The WSA Show, Materials at WSA); The Venetian Hotel (The Collections at WSA), Las Vegas
Notable new exhibitors: Cogent Footwear, Hype Footwear
Highlights: This season’s show will undergo a makeover on the show floors, with cleaner aisles and reorganized product adjacencies. The Box area of the show is adding a dozen new labels, including True Religion, Irregular Choice, Jessica Simpson and Tracy Reese. More changes are in the works, but show organizers are hush-hush for the moment.
Dates: Aug. 5-7
Show hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Location: Millennium Broadway Hotel; FFANY member showrooms, New York
Highlights: The August event marks the final show before FFANY picks up and moves to the New York Hilton, where future editions of the show will be housed all under one roof.
The Atlanta Shoe Market
Dates: Aug. 14-16
Show hours: 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Aug.14-15; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Aug. 16
Location: Cobb Galleria Centre; Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Atlanta
Expected attendees: 2,000
Expected exhibitors: 700
Notable new exhibitors: American Sporting Goods, The North Face
Highlights: This time around, the show will sponsor “A Color and Trend Breakfast Seminar” on Aug. 15, led by Ellen Campuzano, founder and president of the Committee for Colour and Trends.

Show hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Aug. 31; 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Sept. 1-2
Location: Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas
Expected footwear exhibitors: 600
Notable new exhibitors: DC Shoes, Mitchell & Ness
Highlights: The August event will include a completely redesigned menswear space, which will streamline exhibitors — including footwear companies — into a cleaner category segmentation with an updated, modern feel.

Location: San Diego Convention Center, San Diego

Highlights: New to this season’s show is CLASS@ASR, a new exhibition area that will feature about 100 emerging designers who cross the boundaries of traditional surf, skate and fashion lines. The hope is that the handpicked assortment will appeal to upscale boutiques and resort buyers.
