Skechers has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with the mixed martial arts apparel brand TapouT to produce a footwear line under the label. The collection, with price points of $35 to $75, will target male consumers.
According to Skechers President Michael Greenberg, the growing popularity of the sport made the timing right for the company to undertake a new product venture. “Mixed martial arts has been around for more than 15 years in the States, but in the last year or so, the popularity of this sport has increased dramatically,” he said. “What’s missing is the apparel and footwear connection.”
Greenberg said the line, which is being shipped to retail now, will launch in sporting goods accounts, independents and other key retail partners in the U.S. He said the line also would extend to international accounts, though no timetable has been set.
