At the National Shoe Retailers Association conference at the Don Cesar Resort in St. Petersburg, Fla., earlier this month, conference attendees took a break from networking sessions to enjoy a formal awards dinner recognizing significant contributions to the independent retail community.
New Balance CEO Rob DeMartini accepted the Education Sponsor of the Year award on behalf of his company, which is celebrating its 15th year sponsoring the NSRA education committee.
“We have built our supply system to support this channel,” said DeMartini to the crowd.
A shocked John Schuler of Minneapolis-based Schuler Shoes accepted the Retailer of the Year award, and the Al Singer Award for innovative retail practices went to Jim Sadjak of Stan’s Fit for Your Feet, based in Brookfield, Wis.
Vernon Powell Shoes’ Phil Wright presented the Bill Boettge Award to the man himself — former NSRA president Bill Boettge, who was recognized for his countless hours of service to the independent retail industry and the NSRA.
