Twenty-year-old Nikki Blonsky went from Cold Stone Creamery employee to breakout Hollywood star almost overnight, thanks to her memorable turn as Tracy Turnblad in the 2008 film “Hairspray.”

As Blonsky continues to add to her resume with a forthcoming album and a role in the upcoming movie “Waiting for Forever,” the Great Neck, N.Y., native (and current resident) hasn’t gotten too big for her boots. Instead of exclusive designer boutiques, the actress prefers hitting the local mall with her mom. “I’m more of a department store or mall type of girl,” she said. From comfortable Nike sneakers to 4-inch heels, Blonsky’s rule-of-thumb is simple: “Everywhere I go, I make sure I have a good pair [of shoes] with me.”

Pairs owned: More than 50

Brands: Bandolino, Chinese Laundry, Nike, Nine West, Tory Burch, Ugg and Via Spiga

Best find:
“When we were shooting ‘Hairspray’ in Toronto, I was walking past a store and I felt like Dorothy falling into a pair of slippers. I saw these black peep-toe pumps with satin bows on the front with a rhinestone brooch. I wear them [all the time].”

Favorite brands: “Nine West has killer pumps. I like Via Spiga, too, and they gave me some great boots that come up to the knee. I also love Chinese Laundry.”

Biggest splurge:
“Before ‘Hairspray,’ I hardly wore anything other than Payless, and I still wear Payless. I love them because they’re comfortable. My biggest splurge would have to be my first pair of Tory Burch sandals. Afterward I thought, ‘Why did I do that?’ But I wore them all summer and every time I looked down and saw them, I knew why.”

Flats or heels? “I do both. I’m only 4 feet 10 inches, so I like to wear heels because they make me stand up straight and give me a bit of an edge. On my downtime, I’m a flats girl.”

Favorite shoe shopping partner:
“I usually take my mom shopping with me. She’s at all the events with me, so she knows what types of heels I can handle and what I can’t. She’s always there for the ‘Mom! My feet hurt!’ complaints.”

Most memorable shoe moment:
“[When I was choosing my wardrobe] for the Critics’ Choice Awards, I saw these red, patent-leather Stuart Weitzman pumps and thought, ‘These are my ruby-red slippers — these are good luck.’ I put them on and won the Best Young Actress award that night.”
