Buyers Reveal Fall Picks at Sole Commerce

NEW YORK — At the Sole Commerce show in New York on Feb. 22-24, buyers combed The Javits Center in search of brands that will drive traffic and encourage spending in the weak economy. Though some retailers are willing to bring in new brands, many are banking on styles that have a proven track record with core customers. Here, buyers weigh in on their top three brands for fall.

Michelle Rizzardo, co-owner, One of a Few; Vancouver, British Columbia
1. Pour La Victoire
2. Rachel Comey
3. F-Troupe

Susan Bradley, owner, The Ruby Slipper; Spokane, Wash.
1. Sidewalk
2. Corso Como
3. Giraudon French Dressing
“IFor fall, I want some decent color and more handmade, sustainable brands.”

Camille Kessler & Judith Typaldos, co-owners, Piazza Della Sole; Montclair, N.J.
1. Matisse
2. Marc Shoes
3. Attilio Giusti Leombruni
“We are feeling very cautious about fall, and our buy will be similar to our spring plan. But we can’t have enough boots.”

Jeanne O’Karma, owner, J Karma; Philadelphia
1. Frye
2. Jeffrey Campbell
3. Sam Edelman
“I have my eye out for a few new brands because I recently had to drop a few that were weak performers, or offered poor customer service.”
