NEW YORK — British sports brand Gola has joined forces with French designer Christian Lacroix for a collection of men’s and women’s footwear that blends high fashion with sport influences. The shoes will be sold globally beginning in January.
Lacroix, whose designs are available in luxury retailers around the world and in 28 standalone stores, is known for his theatrical style and artful designs and is synonymous with red-carpet fashion.
The Gola by Christian Lacroix collection takes its cue from the designer’s house pattern, Torero Cape, inspired by that of a Spanish bullfighter. The collection includes two women’s and two men’s styles that take a chic twist on classic sport footwear by incorporating elements and techniques typical of Lacroix, such as rich leathers, bold colors and intricate embroidery, according to a statement.
“In a way, trainers are to the 21st century what shimmering ties and multicolored vests were to the dandies of the 19th century — a distinctive sign, a personal signature. That is the perspective from which I prefer to view fashion, rather than that of uniformity,” Lacroix said in the statement. “Given carte blanche by Gola, I took the opportunity, with much gratitude, to bring the modernity of a contemporary and popular brand together with the timeless baroque of an iconic design or our couture house: the embroideries of a torero cape.”
