NEW YORK — In commemoration of Kevin Garnett’s first NBA Championship, Adidas AG will unveil the basketball star’s Team Signature Commander 2008 Champions shoe. Garnett will wear the shoe during the Celtics’ first game of the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers, to be held today.
The shoe incorporates embroidery of Garnett’s fan-given nickname, Champ, a silhouette of Garnett and gold accents throughout. Only 17 pairs were made, the same number of Boston Celtics NBA championships. The limited number of pairs allows a handful of fans to bid online for an autographed pair, benefiting the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation.
“Our amazing run to the NBA Championship was a complete team effort including the fans, so I wanted to do something for the people of Boston,” said Garnett in a statement. “The Celtics brotherhood goes far beyond the court. The Boston fans are the heart of our team, so it’s nice to be able to give back to the community that’s given us so much.”
Fans can bid on the shoes at Celtics.com/shop beginning opening night at 8 p.m. EST in conjunction with tip-off. The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation benefits local children through education and community support programs.
